What a weekend we had at the First Look Wedding Show put on by the girls at Vineyard Bride! Getting a chance to meet this/next season's brides & grooms and share a drink with them was wonderful. Due to popular demand, here is the recipe for the cocktail we made for everyone!
Looking for a refreshing cocktail to quench your thirst on a hot summer day? Look no further than the Watermelon Basil Gimlet! This fruity and herbaceous twist on a classic cocktail is the perfect drink for any summer gathering.
This cocktail is not only delicious, but it’s also easy to make. You can easily scale up the recipe to make a pitcher for a crowd (we typically batch the non-alcoholic ingredients for event day). It’s a drink that is sure to impress your guests and keep you cool on a hot summer day, and can easily be served as a mocktail option (just leave out the gin!).
The combination of sweet watermelon juice and tangy lime juice creates a perfectly balanced flavor that is sure to please. The addition of fresh basil adds an herby note that complements the sweetness of the watermelon and the sourness of the lime. It’s a drink that is both refreshing and complex in flavor.
We try to use local ingredients wherever we can in our cocktails: the gin is from a local Niagara-on-the-Lake distillery, Limited Distillery, and the basil is fresh from our garden.
1.5 oz Limited Distillery Unfiltered Gin
2 oz Fresh Watermelon Juice
3/4 oz Fresh Lime Juice
3/4 oz Basil Agave Syrup
To make a Watermelon Basil Gimlet, start by creating a basil agave syrup. Simply combine equal parts agave syrup and water in a saucepan, add basil and bring to a simmer. Allow to cool.
To your shaker, add fresh pureed watermelon juice, lime juice, the agave syrup and gin, then shake with ice. Strain the mixture into a tall glass filled with ice and garnish with a small slice of watermelon and a sprig of basil.
